The Shaq Attack!

Shaquille O’Neal may be the greatest National Basketball Association (NBA) center ever!  He is known for his basketball skills and not so much as a rapper or actor. On the court, he towered over the other players. But size alone did not put him in the top five in points, rebounds, and blocks, 4 NBA championships, 3 Finals Most Valuable Player (MVP) awards, one regular-season MVP, All-Star Game MVPs, Olympic and World Championship gold medals.  He was a great basketball player.

Off the court, Shaq defined the modern athlete.  He owned his own business and his own brand.  He was good at being famous and received a lot of endorsements from companies such as Reebok, PepsiCo, Icy Hot, Taco Bell, and Wheaties, and not leave out JCPenny.  He has millions of social media followers.  He is recognized everywhere.

And then comes FTX.  Shaq, as well as other high-profile celebrities, are listed in the lawsuit filed by FTX retail investors.  The investors named Shaq, Steph Curry, Tom Brady, Giselle Bundchen, and Larry David as promoters of FTX’s services.  The investors claim that Shaq was one of the biggest celebrities promoting FTX including hosting a Super Bowl party at the “Shaq’s Fun House” for the Cyrpto-Bowl.  He even appeared as an official brand ambassador using the tagline “I’m all in.  Are you?” But was he?

Lawyers for the investors (plaintiffs) say he was dodging the service of the legal papers to take him into court.  They tried to serve him at his home, his studio, and even outside his house as he drove through the gate.  They tried to serve him the papers for months and multiple attempts.

As the star center of basketball, Shaq had to be big and strong but was not known for his agility.  In avoiding the process servers, he improved his dodging and avoiding skills.  But what about his investing skills? Shaq says in his defense, I was just a paid representative.
